On Our Travels with Darcy's Postcard Challenge - Mexico

Apologies from the start for the poor photography, the light is so poor, I ended up taking these shots at a very funny angle. I can not believe we are at the end of our round the world trip. I made my page and postcard fun to reflect the fun this challenge has been. Thank you so much for organizing it Darcy and thanks to to my fellow travelers for your kind comments, encouragement and for sharing your amazing artwork and stories with me.
All the best for 2013 to you all.

On Our Travels with Darcy's Postcard Challenge - Greenland

The National flower of Greenland is Rose Bay willow herb which is one of my favourite wild flowers. Hence my postcard. I have used a digital stamp of the flower from Dover and coloured it using Aquatone pencils and a water brush. My page shows some of the glorious views to be found in Greenland and the polar bear found on the countries coat of arms.
Hard to believe we have only one country left to visit. Thank you Darcy this has been a fabulous challenge.

On Our Travels with Darcy's Postcard Challenge - Jamaica

After seeing so many beautiful sunsets pictures as I researched Jamaica I had a go at making my own. I used Distress Stains for the background and stamps from Stampscape for the images. I was really pleased to find a stamp of the famous toboggan team for the back. My page shows the flag, one of those sunsets and two famous Jamaicans.
The pocket is what I think is a wonderful painting by the Jamaican painter Barrington Watson called  "Dance of the Maroons". The Maroons are descended from runaway slaves. They established communities in the interior of Jamaica. A vibrant community continues to this day and this painting depicts a dance as part of a celebration.

CD Sunday Challenge - Layer it Up

I have made a 6 by 6 card with papers from Kirsty Wiseman's Picklicious CD and toppers from a Lili of the Valley sheet. I was having a bit of a tidy up in the craft room and found lots of previously printed sheets and thought I would reduce the pile by trying to use some of them for this challenge. Thought the colours from two different sources actually went quite well together.I added a button from my stash and a twirl of Tim Holtz's paper.
Thank you for taking a look, all your comments are so encouraging.

On Our Travels with Darcy's Postcard Challenge - Tibet

When I think of Tibet mountains and images of prayer flags fluttering in the wind come to mind, so that is what I have done for my postcard.
On my page I have an image of the mosque at Lhasa, a dancer dressed for the ceremonial Cham dance and yaks also dressed for a special day. My pocket is an image of the Snow Lion. This image forms part of the flag of Tibet now banned by the Chinese government. It has become a symbol for exile Tibetans. My stamp depicts the Dali Lama and was issued by Hawaii to celebrate his recent visit there.

CD Sunday Challenge - Rainy Days

A real challenge for me this week. My daughter bought me a Bamboo drawing tablet for my birthday so I had a go at colouring digitally with it. The image is from Arthur's clip art and I used it in CA2 with Serif Cd Backyard Bumper. It was fun trying to colour but I need a lot more practice I think. Thanks for stopping by to look. Any comments are much appreciated.

CD Sunday Challenge - Poetry Corner

I have made a 6 by 6 card using a Vintaj CD "Fading India" working in CA2.  The poem is the first verse of John Godfrey Saxe's ( 1816-1887) version of the famous Indian legend.
It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

On Our Travels With Darcy's Postcard Challenge - Russia

When I think of Russia I think of Winter, War and Peace and Dr. Zhivago to blame I guess. Also I have a friend who grew up in Siberia and she was telling me how overnight the snow would almost bury their little house and they would make a sloping  tunnel from the front door which was way under the snow to the outside. This is how she would then get out to school all winter. So I have used the lovely image of Moscow when it is snowing from the Snowman Movie. I added some white edging. My page also shows one of Russia's beautiful churches in the snow. The pocket is from a cover of Vogue showing a take on Russian dolls which they did for a 10th anniversary of Matryoshka dolls.

On Our Travels With Darcy's Postcard Challenge - Portugal

I have followed  the explorer nautical theme for Portugal. One of the world's most famous explorers is the Portuguese Vasco De Gama. In 1498 he became the first European to reach India by sea. In so doing he paved the way for the Portuguese Colonial Empire in Asia.
My postcard is on watercolour paper with his image from Wikipedia and a ship stamp from Artemio. The background map stamp is from Impression Obsession.
My page shows a map of Vasco De Gama's route as the pocket and pictures of the flag, Porto and the famous Discoveries monument in Lisbon made to celebrate Portugal's famous explorers.

Do take a look at the talented work of  others on this journey here.
